MOU signed with Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation for collaboration to create a new economic zone in the space domain and to develop the space industry

On August 30 (Fri.), we reached an agreement with Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) to collaborate in the creation of a new economic zone related to the space domain and the development of the space industry.

how it started

ISC IS CURRENTLY WORKING ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF A ROCKET FOR SATELLITE LAUNCH BY MARCH 2028, HAVING BEEN SELECTED FOR THE SBIR PHASE 3 PROJECT BY THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION, CULTURE, SPORTS, SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY. IN ORDER TO STEADILY ADVANCE DEVELOPMENT THROUGH GOVERNMENT SUBSIDIES, IT IS NECESSARY TO STABILIZE NOT ONLY THE TECHNICAL ASPECTS BUT ALSO THE FINANCIAL BASE.

One of SMBC's major initiatives in its new medium-term management plan starting from FY2023 is to provide group-wide support to startup companies according to their growth stage and contribute to the development of new industries.

By utilizing such start-up support from SMBC, the two companies have agreed to work together to create a new economic zone for space transportation by stabilizing their financial base and receiving support according to their growth stage.

Details of Cooperation

(1) Development of financial and non-financial related services

DEVELOPMENT OF ISC'S SPACE TRANSPORTATION BUSINESS AND SPACE-RELATED SERVICES, AS WELL AS DEVELOPMENT OF FINANCIAL AND NON-FINANCIAL RELATED SERVICES REQUIRED AS THE SPACE INDUSTRY DEVELOPS.

(2) COMMERCIALIZATION OF ISC FOR DEVELOPMENT OF REUSABLE LAUNCH VEHICLES AND HUMANTRANSPORT VEHICLES AND PROVISION OF SPACE-RELATED SERVICES

Establishment of business consortiums with business companies, local governments, and academic institutions, and support for new entry and collaboration with private companies, etc., utilizing the Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group's group network and extensive client base.

(3) Collaboration for the purpose of private sector participation

Communicate and raise awareness of ISC's vision and mission by utilizing SMBC's open innovation platform (Future X) and various functions of SMBC's MoU partner companies.
