August 27th, 2024 by admin_innovative

Innovative Space Carrier Inc.(Chuo-ku, Tokyo, CEOKojiro Hatada) is a start-up company with the vision of Creating an era when everyone has access to spaceand aims to realize a transportation system that makes space reusablepossible.

We have started a working group (NSP-WG) together with the following 17 companies and 1 university to study the ideal "Next Generation Space Port (NSP)" which is necessary to realize high frequency space transportation services. And on August 2 (Friday), the first day of the first meeting, a kick-off was held, followed by a reception titled "Lunar Foods x Future Food Reception in Space Port".

What is the New Space Port (NSP) Working Group?

OUR ULTIMATE GOAL IS TO CONDUCT HIGH-FREQUENCY SPACE TRANSPORTATION IN THE 2040S USING A "FULLY REUSABLE SINGLE-STAGE SPACE REUSABLEVEHICLE (SSTO)".

THE ISC ENVISIONS THE NSP AS A HUB TO SUPPORT HIGH-FREQUENCY SPACE TRANSPORTATION.

THE NSP AIMS TO ATTRACT VISITORS NOT ONLY FOR ROCKET LAUNCHES AND LANDINGS, BUT ALSO FOR A WIDE RANGE OF OTHER PURPOSES SUCH AS TRAVEL, SIGHTSEEING, AND FACILITY USE. THE NSP IS DESIGNED TO COMBINE WITH A WIDE RANGE OF FACILITIES RELATED TO SPACE TRANSPORTATION, INCLUDING COMMERCIAL FACILITIES SUCH AS MALLS, ENTERTAINMENT FACILITIES SUCH AS LIVE VENUES, ENERGY FACILITIES, AND DISASTER RESPONSE FACILITIES.

The NSP-WG is a fixed-term group to study the feasibility of the NSP, and will conduct a Feasibility Study until October 2025 with 17 companies and 1 university to determine the direction of the project and prepare a deliverable that can be used in the event that a construction project is organized in the future. The project will produce a deliverable that can be used in the event that a construction project is formed in the future.

Lunar Foods x Future Food Reception in Spaceport

On Friday, August 2, the first meeting of the NSP-WG, a reception entitled "Lunar Foods x Future Food Reception in Spaceport" was held.

For the reception, a "future spaceport reception" themed meal was prepared in cooperation with Lunar Robotics Corporation, a company that produces the condiment printer COLONY, which aims to expand the options for food experiences on the moon and Mars.

ACCORDING TO JAXA'S OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT, 1,000 PEOPLE ARE EXPECTED TO LIVE ON THE MOON IN 2040, AND 10,000 TRAVELERS ARE EXPECTED TO COME AND GO. IN THAT PHASE, THE SUPPLY FROM THE EARTH WILL NOT BE ENOUGH TO MEET THE DEMAND, SO "MOON PRODUCTION FOR MOON CONSUMPTION" WILL BECOME A NECESSITY, AND THERE WILL ALSO BE DEMAND FOR SOUVENIRS OF "MADE ON THE MOON" FOR TRAVELERS.

What would a future Earth spaceport be like, a hub between Earth and space, and what would a spaceport reception be like that also used ingredients from the moon?

Today we have given form to such an image of the future.

ACCORDING TO JAXA'S "LUNAR FARM WORKING GROUP STUDY REPORT," THERE ARE EIGHT TYPES OF FOODSTUFFS THAT ARE READY FOR CULTIVATION ON THE MOON. IN ADDITION, MORE OPTIONS ARE EXPECTED TO BE ADDED IN THE FUTURE, SUCH AS CULTURED MEAT, LAND-BASED AQUACULTURE, AND ALGAE.

We believe that three elements are key to updating the lunar and Martian food experience to greatness. Processing, fermentation, and flavor alteration. Even if there are only a few types of ingredients, if we can successfully cross these three elements, we can expand our options in countless ways.

Many people think of space food as tasteless freeze-dried food, but the more delicious, rich, and varied the food choices, the more fulfilling the meal on the lunar base will be. Various professionals are working day and night on research and development to realize such a dining experience. (Comment from Mr. Okada, President of LUNA Robotics)

Food is grown on the moon.

Currently, there are eight types of ingredients planned for cultivation on the Moon: rice, soybeans, potatoes, sweet potatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, and strawberries ( from JAXA's "Moon Farm Working Group Study Report" ).

CULTURED MEATS AND ALGAE ARE ALSO BEING CONSIDERED FOR PRACTICAL USE. RESEARCH IS BEING CONDUCTED DAY AND NIGHT TO CREATE MENUS BASED ON THESE INGREDIENTS THROUGH PROCESSING AND FERMENTATION, AIMING NOT ONLY FOR SURVIVAL, BUT ALSO TO IMPROVE QOL.

The following menu for this year's "Lunar Foods x Future Food Reception in Spaceport" is also based on these ingredients.
*This is a concept dinner. Actual lunar ingredients and cultured meats are not used, but substitute ingredients are used.

Lunar cucumbers pickled with hot pepper and raayu
Cucumbers are too good to just eat as a salad. Simple pickles are good, but if spices and raayu add an accent, it may add some excitement to your daily life on the moon in a closed space. This dish is also great for this hot season.

Imitation Cultured Meat
Simply seasoned cultured meat (in this case, chicken breast cooked at low temperature). This dish offers different textures depending on the cut, thickness and shape of the chicken breast. Please enjoy it with multiple sauces and seasonings to change the flavor.
Special cooperation: AlgaleX Inc.

Pseudo-Land Farmed Salmon Spring Rolls
Salmon, best suited for land farming, is made into spring rolls with moon lettuce and soy milk cheese (in this case, mascarpone cheese). The dish is a delight to the palate with a variety of textures: the texture of the salmon, the chewiness of the cultured meat, the crunchiness of the lettuce, and the stickiness of the cheese.
Future Food Jelly "Ramen "
This futuristic ramen jelly is made by chilling and solidifying ramen noodles using polysaccharide thickener.
In the future, controlling the viscosity may be a clue to solving dietary issues such as swallowing.
Special cooperation: Organo Foodtech Co.

Dishes on a "black glass plate"
The surface of the moon is covered with iron-rich lunar sand called regolith. The dishes are served on black glass plates as samples for the photo shoot, based on the concept of "what if we made plates out of regolith?
It is expected that not only food, but also plates and various other items will be made on the moon.
