About the electric pumps developed by EBARA
SINCE THE EARLY 2000S, EBARA HAS BEEN SUPPORTING JAXA'S ENGINE TURBOPUMP IMPROVEMENTS BY UTILIZING ITS ROTARY MACHINERY TECHNOLOGY. WITH THE MISSION OF "TAKING THE CONNECTION BETWEEN PEOPLE AND SPACE FOR GRANTED," EBARA HAS BEEN DEVELOPING PUMPS FOR ROCKET ENGINES TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE REALIZATION OF LOW-COST MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION TO SPACE BY UTILIZING THIS KNOWLEDGE.
The pumps developed by EBARA for rocket engines use an electric motor as the driving machine. To enhance the performance of rocket engines, turbo pumps are required to boost the pressure of combustants and oxidizers, but using electric drive improves maintainability and ease of handling, making it possible to build rocket systems that are highly compatible with reusable rockets.
Development of Rocket Engine with Electric Pump for High Frequency Transport
ISC HAS PAID ATTENTION TO EBARA'S ELECTRIC PUMP TECHNOLOGY AND DECIDED TO JOINTLY DEVELOP A ROCKET ENGINE UTILIZING THIS PUMP. ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT ISSUES WHEN CONSIDERING REUSABLE ROCKET SYSTEMS ARE THE THRUST ADJUSTMENT FUNCTION DURING LANDING AND MAINTAINABILITY TO WITHSTAND REPEATED USE, AND ELECTRIC PUMPS ARE EXPECTED TO BE A TECHNOLOGY THAT CAN ADDRESS THESE ISSUES. ISC, IN COLLABORATION WITH EBARA CORPORATION, WILL MAKE THIS POSSIBLE IN JAPAN.
Through their collaboration, the two parties will conduct a ground firing test of the rocket engine, aiming to bring it up to a level that will enable them to conduct a technical demonstration to inject a satellite into Earth orbit by March 2028.
